Space Phallus is a fun shoot-em-up with a retro 8 bit theme. You control the disembodied head of a dog, and fight against hordes of evil space penises. There are now 3 levels in total, and i’ll be adding at least 2 more over the coming weeks and months. These is also an online scoreboard in the game, so everyone can compete to try and become the Worlds Biggest Phallus!

Controls:
Arrows/joystick moves your ship around
Z/button 1 shoots
X/button 2 shoot missiles
C/button 3 fire breath

On the title screen you can also press either the ’2′ or ’3′ key to skip to that level.

With thanks to John Marwin, Magnus ‘SoulEye’ Pålsson, David Harris and Roald Strauss for providing the cool retro music!

A big thanks also to Bruce Henderson for the Intel Mac and Linux versions.

Excellent game. Thanks for your work.
Is there a way to download the soundtrack ?

You’ll have to download the tracks individually from the artist’s websites. The tracks are called Retro Tune, Another Retro Tune, Circle Of Sounds and Sirius Business (i think, i didn’t look!)

    Cheers

    Hey Charlie,

Do you still have the original, more difficult, Space Phallus? I replaced my old version with the new one a while back, and while I like being able to beat the game, I miss the immense challenge.

I’m nopt sure actually! I’ll have to have a search through my archives…

I’m having trouble tracking down some of the songs from the game. My friends like to jam out to it on guitar/bass while I’m playing, but I could only find Sirius Bismuth and Retro Tune on those websites. Do you plan on releasing the soundtrack altogether?

The songs you haven’t mentioned Circle of sounds by John Marwin, and Another Retro Tune by Rauld Strauss.

    Hope that helps…

    Cheers

a 64 bit linux binary would be great!

    Unfortunately, Blitzmax doesn’t do 64bit binaries :(

Too bad the Linux binary segfaults on x64, even with all of the proper 32 bit libraries. Guess I’ll have to try the windows version on my next reboot, this game certainly looks interesting.

    Hi Charlie !

It would be really cool if, someday, you could re-build the Linux version so that it uses a current audio system like ALSA or Pulseaudio (as in Scoregasm for instance). The problem with the current build is that it uses the old OSS soundsystem which has to be emulated.

I managed to get it to work under a 64 bits Kubuntu by installing osspd (which redirects OSS calls to ALSA/Pulse).

  15. Posted June 16, 2013 at 8:26 am | Permalink

I might do that, or maybe release the source. That way you could build it with whatever sounds system you liked!

    Cheers

That would be awesome ! If you release the source (and free the data as well) the game could be included in the official Debian repos, which would be amazing as it’s still one of the very best shmups, IMHO, and it’s full of ***** !
